Men’s Grooming: Shaving and Trimming Properly
May 22, 2011  |  Grooming, Men

For a regimen that is more or less routine, shaving for a lot of us continues to be territory where we seem to lack experience in. While we all know that there is a difference between shaving and trimming, you must take your time to do whichever properly. Having said that, this does not mean the process needs to take hours. If your shave or trim begins in the early morning make sure you begin after you have had your espresso. If you are the type of guy who needs their coffee fix to get going, then it only makes perfect sense that you are alert and awake before you attempt to do anything your face that involves a blade.

Now you may have heard this time and time again but the truth is, even if you are just doing a quick trim job make sure you take a hot shower prior. The experience opens your pores and calibrates your skin and hair for grooming.

If you have a beard and use a trimmer, learn about your machine and the threshold each settings has. A well-defined beard can be destroyed should you unintentionally get trimmer happy.

Prior, use beard scissors to tame those stray hairs and depending on the desired beard length, trim accordingly. Never press the trimmer aggressively against your face. If you do you could end up with random trim tracks on your beard which will render you rather foolish looking.

When it comes to actual shaving, never use a disposable razor. Unless you’re stranded on an island and that’s all you have. Don’t skimp on such a necessity. Most of you know a good proper razor when you see it and those are the ones you should be using. For those of you who feel that disposable razors are fine since you only use them to detail your beard and shave your neck that is where you can easily nick and hurt yourself. If anything, disposable razors are certainly not meant for detailing, as their blades aren’t sharp enough and hence don’t have much precision. Use a more permanent razor and it should last you longer.

Should you cut yourself use a moisturizer with aloe vera and or vitamin E for swift healing.
